Sabrina Sadiq 12th Australasian Virology Society Meeting 2024

Sabrina Sadiq

Sabrina Sadiq completed her PhD in 2023 at the University of Sydney with Professor Eddie Holmes, where she is currently a postdoctoral researcher specialising in RNA virus evolution and ecology. Her research primarily focuses on identifying and characterising highly diverse RNA virus groups in underexplored environments such as soil and sediment. Sabrina's work has significantly contributed to understanding the relationship between virome composition and the physicochemical properties of soil. Additionally, her research has played a role in resolving complex phylogenetic relationships within microbe-associated RNA virus clades of evolutionary or ecological significance, including the Narnaviridae, Mitoviridae, Leviviricietes, and Picobirnaviridae. These days, Sabrina is processing over 300 soil samples taken from numerous environments all over Australia. This expansive data set is sure to uncover thousands of novel and highly divergent RNA viruses and reveal the intricate relationships between Australian soil properties, land use, and viral diversity
